THE BOLINAS-STINSON UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
BELIEF / VISION STATEMENTS

We believe that the Bolinas and Stinson Beach school community will work in partnership to:

inspire a challenging and comprehensive educational program which:
includes academic excellence
fosters love of and enthusiasm for learning
nurtures a sense of wonder and curiosity and provides a safe and nurturing environment
encourages respect for self and others
promotes responsibility
and develops the full potential of all children by recognizing and working with each child's uniqueness

We believe that each child is a unique individual with an enormous capacity to learn. The community shall work together to help each child to:

Develop a lifelong love of learning,
Think critically and creatively,
Master academic skills and strive for excellence,
Build self-esteem, independence, responsible behavior, and respect for others,
Develop a concern for the environment and an awareness of the global community, and
Contribute to the community at large.

Within the context of this statement, the Trustees of the Bolinas-Stinson Union School District affirm the following goals for the education of students and the enablement of staff.

Students: The education of all students shall include the development of: academic potential with consideration for their readiness and maturity; positive attitude and belief in themselves and good health; physical education; sensitivity to other cultures and their languages; an appreciation for the arts; perception of a right to strive for personal excellence.

Priority is given to reading for content and language appreciation, writing for communication and style, and mathematics for problem solving and appreciation of logical structure.

We believe in a curriculum which provides continuity of learning and incorporates social, natural, and physical sciences by granting increasing amount of time in progressive grade levels.

We recognize the importance of teaching our students about the world's delicate and complex balances and the student's role within that balance, respect and appreciation of the beauty of our environment, problem- solving and decision-making skills leading to a student's trust in his or her own judgment, a feeling of responsibility to the group and respect for others, as well as respect for materials and school property.

Staff and Administration: We support staff and administration professional growth and renewal, and strongly encourage opportunities to participate in the larger academic professional community.

We believe staff and administrator efforts to strive for excellence are a model for the students to perceive and appreciate, and strongly support recognition of staff and administrator excellence.

We recognize the importance of an integrated K-8 district, and strongly encourage opportunities for K-8 cooperative efforts.
